TAPA announces the 2025 Dora Mavor Moore Award Nominees

At a press conference held today at Meridian Hall in downtown Toronto, ON., Toronto Alliance for the  Performing Arts (TAPA) announced the nominations for the 45th Anniversary Dora Mavor Moore Awards presented by the Romano D’Andrea Foundation.

With 225 nominations across 43 Categories for Theatre, Dance & Opera, this year’s nominations also include 81 shows from 59 registered companies.

Among the nominations, in the Dance Division nominees were announced for Outstanding Production, Outstanding Original Choreography, Outstanding Performance by an Individual, Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble, Outstanding Original Sound Composition, Outstanding Achievement in Design, and Outstanding Touring Production. TAPA Ancillary Award winners were also announced which included: Juan Jaramillo as this year’s recipient of the Christine Karcza Disability Leadership Award, with emerging Disability leader Ralitsa Rodriguez also honoured; Adina Herling Davids as this year’s recipient of the Leonard McHardy and John Harvey Award, while its related prize, the Victor C. Polley Protégé Award, was awarded to Marketa Tokova; and Sophie Moynan was awarded this year’s Pauline McGibbon Award.  Guild Festival Theatre was awarded the Ray Ferris Innovation and Sustainability Grant of $25,000 to recognize advances in theatrical design and the promotion of environmental sustainability in live theatre.

The Dora Awards, Canada’s largest and oldest awards program, are named for Dora Mavor Moore (1888-1979), a well-loved teacher and director who helped
establish Canadian professional theatre in the 1930s and 1940s. Recognizing the outstanding achievements in Toronto’s performing arts industry, the Doras honour the creators of numerous theatre, dance and opera productions annually in the following divisions: General Theatre, Independent Theatre, Musical Theatre, Dance, Opera, Theatre for Young Audiences, Touring and Innovation.

The 45th Anniversary Dora Mavor Moore Awards presented by the Romano D’Andrea Foundation will occur on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. EST at  Toronto’s Meridian Hall, located at 1 Front Street East. The ceremony will be hosted by Dora award-winning actor Peter Fernandes — who today also received a Dora Award nomination for Fat Ham (Canadian Stage). Tickets for the Dora Awards event are on sale now including $45 early bird tickets (taxes and fees included), available until June 6, 2025.
