About Kara Mack
Kara Mack has been featured in the press for her extensive work as a choreographer, creative director, performer, and founder of Africa in America®. With press coverage highlighting her involvement in various major productions, collaborations, academic endeavors, and artistic contributions.
Her work includes credits in film and television, such as serving as Movement Coach for Margot Robbie in “Babylon” and Assistant Choreographer for “Coming to America 2” and “The Color Purple”. She was the choreographer for Freeform’s “Good Trouble” and co-choreographed for Chance the Rapper on “Saturday Night Live”. Additionally, she has worked as an assistant choreographer on projects for NBA, Disney, NBC, and Fox.
Mack has also been involved in major music and awards show performances, assisting on Kendrick Lamar’s performance at the 58th Grammy Awards and Busta Rhymes’ performance at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. She has performed at events such as the Grammys, BET Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and Billboard Music Awards and worked with Kanye West’s Sunday Service at Coachella.
Her contributions extend to the “Black Panther” franchise, including providing choreography for the first trailer release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at Comic-Con 2022 and collaborating on the Actively Black x Marvel’s Black Panther Collection launch.
Mack’s academic and community engagement includes being invited as faculty to Yale University’s first festival celebrating vernacular dance in America and teaching African Diasporic Movement and Commercial Dance there. She has also conducted a commercial dance series at Loyola Marymount University, served as an artist-in-residence at The Debbie Allen Dance Academy, and is the founder of Africa in America®, an online resource for African Diasporic musicians and dancers. She has been featured on KPBS and led Traditional West African dance for “The Remembrance” in Los Angeles.
Recent news and appearances include touring with her “Selah” EP, performing tracks from the “Ruden” EP, and acting in the play “MOTHERLOSS”. She collaborated on the “In Your Dreams” project as choreographer and participated in The Remembrance – Day 3 Recap. Future engagements include working with Djapo Cultural Arts Institute and presenting at Ohio Wesleyan University, a dance workshop and artist talk at Whitman College, and hosting the Sankofa online lecture series for Dance Mission Theater’s Liberation Academy.
