Exploring the deeper layers of the human spirit: With Tedi Tafel

Tedi Tafel is a movement artist and teacher based in Montreal. Her choreography is site-specific and explores the interconnection between humans and their environment. Her works are expressions of this porous interface between the body and its surroundings; this reciprocal way we affect and are affected by where we are. The over-riding arc of her 35-year career describes a movement away from traditional settings towards an intimate engagement with place and act as catalysts for more poetic and meaningful experiences of the urban landscape; a backyard garden, an abandoned lot, a rooftop in winter, a city street.  She’s been presented in festivals across Canada and in New York, Iceland, England, Wales and Germany. Tafel has a long-term engagement with somatic practices that access the intelligence of the body and reveal its intrinsic expressive language. These inform her art and are at the core of a vibrant teaching and mentoring practice. She is also an Energy Medicine Practitioner. (www.calendarproject.ca)
